  • Saccharomycetes and Malassezia fungi associate with early-life gut maturation and allergic disease risk in childhood

Think of the gut like a house with two tenants who are supposed to swap places on a given schedule. Malassezia moves out and Saccharomyces moves in. When the transfer happens on time, the immune system stays calm and settled. When the old tenant overstays its welcome, the immune system stays on edge, and allergies are more likely to show up down the road.
